1PM - Heritage PigsMore than Bacon: Krystina Cook from Cook Pigs Ranch, located in Julian, CA and founded in 2012, will describe how their ranch raises heritage pigs in a humane and regenerative forest/pasture combination that benefits the environment and supports the local economy. Nick the Butcher will demonstrate how to breakdown a whole pig and explain why it’s so good!
2PM - Craft Beer and Local HopsA Community Dialogue: Three local breweries (Green Flash, Duck Foot Beer, Stone Brewery Co.) and a hop farm (Nopalito) will discuss how the drought has affected their businesses and ways in which they are shifting practices to deal with the drought. Beer flights will also be available at the Quartyard bar. The audience will have the opportunity to sample the dish. Food donated by Specialty Produce. All Day - Kids & Plastic Awareness Area:
"Life on the Farm" activities for kids led by University of San Diego students 1Bag1World, a local non-profit dedicated to uniting girls and women locally and globally to eliminate our plastic footprint and illuminate the strength and beauty of women and our oceans, will “up-cycle” t-shirts into reusable tote bags with kids and adults. Bring an old t-shirt and learn how to recycle it into your new favorite farmers market bag.
Watch Cabrillo National Monument artist in resident, Cat Chiu Phillips, as she builds a portion of her “float” for the annual Rose Bowl parade out of recycled plastic goods found on San Diego’s beaches. Kids and adults can help Cat build the float and learn about the plastics on our beaches and in our ocean.
The San Diego Surfrider Foundation booth will showcase their ocean friendly restaurant campaign along with their other good works for San Diego’s oceans and beaches.
